The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) has strongly protested against a news report published by the Indian media outlet Anandabazar, describing the report as entirely baseless and misleading.
On 27 December, Anandabazar reported on its website that the Pakistani army was set to return to Bangladesh after 53 years.
In a press release issued on Saturday, the ISPR stated that the article titled “Urdu-e Bangali Gonohotyar Rokter Chhite! 53 Bochhor Por Bangladeshe
Phirchhe Shei Porajito Pak Fouj” was both misleading and unfounded.
The ISPR affirmed that the Bangladesh Army remains steadfast in its principles of professionalism, impartiality, and international cooperation.
It noted:
“As part of its regular activities, the Bangladesh Army maintains friendly relations with the armed forces of various countries and conducts cooperative programmes such as student exchanges and training to enhance mutual understanding and operational efficiency.”
The ISPR further clarified: “There are no plans for any training teams or representatives from the Pakistan Army to visit any military bases in Bangladesh for training. This claim is baseless and entirely inconsistent with reality.”
Additionally, the Bangladesh Army procures ammunition from multiple countries as per its operational requirements. The ISPR stressed that uninformed opinions on sensitive defence matters are unwarranted, undesirable, and objectionable.
The ISPR also criticised the journalistic practices of the concerned newspaper, noting that it did not seek any comments or clarifications from the ISPR of Bangladesh before publishing the report. “This disregard raises serious questions about the neutrality and credibility of the report,” the statement added.
The Bangladesh Army reiterated its commitment to transparency and the dissemination of accurate information. The ISPR urged media outlets to verify information with credible sources before publishing any reports.
