Amu placed on 6-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Amir Hossain Amu, a member of the Awami League Advisory Council and former minister, on a six-day remand in connection with the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud in the New Market area of the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza issued the remand order on Thursday noon.
Earlier, police applied for a 10-day remand for the AL veteran leader in the murder case of businessman Abdul Wadud.

Jahangir Arif, the investigating officer of the case, applied for the remand of Amir Hossain Amu, who is also the coordinator of AL-led 14 party alliance.

Earlier, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the Awami League leader Amir Hossain Amu from the Dhanmondi area in the capital on Wednesday (November 6).

According to the case documents, businessman Abdul Wadud was shot dead by the police in the Nilkhet area under the New Market police station on the afternoon of July 19 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
In this incident, his brother-in-law Abdur Rahman filed a murder case against 130 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former bridges minister Obaidul Quader, and others.
