NN Online:

The Bangladesh Army uncovered a secret hideout of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) (Main) in the Kaukhali area of Rangamati on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, an army patrol conducted a special operation targeting high-ranking UPDF militants and successfully located the hideout, as confirmed by a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Upon realizing the army’s presence, the UPDF operatives fled the scene. In the subsequent search, the army recovered several items, including 17 rounds of pistol ammunition, a binocular, a walkie-talkie set, a hard disk, UPDF uniforms, extortion receipts, and other various equipment.

During the operation, UPDF (Main) attempted to disrupt the army’s efforts by mobilizing tribal women for protests and tried to seize the captured items. However, the army remained composed and professional, ensuring that the situation was brought under control, the ISPR release stated.

In a related development, law enforcement agencies from a neighboring country recently intercepted several consignments of arms and ammunition from various armed groups operating in the hill tracts, as reported by the media.

The army reiterated its commitment to continuing operations against regional armed groups that threaten the peace and sovereignty of Bangladesh’s hill tracts.
