The film titled ‘Rickshaw Girl,’ directed by Amitabh Reza, is finally set to release in Bangladeshi cinemas next year, as confirmed by the director himself yesterday.
The film was initially scheduled for a 2020 release but plans were derailed due to the Covid pandemic. In the years since, ‘Rickshaw Girl’ has travelled the globe, earning accolades and awards at prestigious international film festivals.
While it received widespread recognition abroad, local audiences have been eagerly waiting to watch the movie on home screens.
Regarding the new release timeline,director said, “I create films for the audience. This movie has already received widespread acclaim internationally, and now I want to present it to the people of my own country. With that goal, we are planning a release in January. While the exact date is yet to be finalised, we are confident that it will arrive in cinemas next year.”
Meanwhile, Amitabh Reza is actively engaged in projects scheduled for the new year, including a new web series.
He is currently outside Dhaka for the shooting of this series.
‘Rickshaw Girl’ is an adaptation of a novel by Indian-American author Mitali Perkins. The story follows Naima, a young woman with a passion for painting and a natural artistic talent.
Her life takes an unexpected turn when her father, the breadwinner of their struggling family, falls seriously ill. With painting providing no financial stability, Naima is compelled to take up rickshaw pulling to make ends meet.
Along the way, she encounters a series of complex challenges that test her resolve.

The cast also includes Champa, Momena Chowdhury, Naresh Bhuiyan, Allen Shubhro, among others.
Novera portrays Naima, while Momena Chowdhury plays her mother, and Naresh Bhuiyan takes on the role of her father.
