On the occasion of International Mother Language Day Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in association with Asian Paints, IRCON and Marico Bangladesh is organising a poetry evening titled Ami Tomai Bhalobashi at the IGCC today.
Dahlia Ahmed, Joyonto Chattopadhyay and Rana Thakur will recite poems in the poetry evening, which will start at 6:30pm on February 21 at the IGCC Auditorium in the city’s Gulshan area.
A leading recitation artiste and elocutionist of Bangladesh, Dahlia Ahmed was born in Mymensingh in 1951 to an esteemed freedom fighter family. A brilliant student, she grew up in the strict disciplinary ambience of Bharateswari Homes – a renowned residential school for girls in Bangladesh reputed for excellence in academic and cultural activities.
She later graduated in English from Dhaka University.
Dahlia Ahmed has an ardent passion for languages, particularly phonetics and pronunciation. She has participated in several national programmes held on the occasions of International Mother Language Day, Independence Day and Victory Day.
She has also given background voice to many stage shows, dance dramas, documentaries and live commentaries. Dahlia Ahmed has recited poetry and dance dramas all over the country and abroad in cities such as New York, London and Paris. She is a recipient of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Award for recitation in 2010.
Joyanto Chattopadhyay is a well-known recitation artist, elocutionist and actor of Bangladesh. Born in 1946 at Satkhira, he studied at the Vidyasagar and Ananda Mohan Colleges of Kolkata University and earned many awards there for recitation, singing and acting. He has immensely contributed to establishing and popularising recitation as a separate medium of performing arts in the country.
He has performed as a professional recitation artiste in Mumbai, New York, Detroit, Florida, Paris and many other cities around the world. Joyonto Chattopadhyay is also a versatile actor who has acted in 42 feature films and 530 telefilms and won many award.
Born in 1958 at Pabna, Rana Thakur is a recitation artist and translator. He has a keen interest in Rabindranath Tagore’s philosophy and works. He has recited poems on several occasions in Bangladesh and abroad. n
