Aman paddy seedlings thrive in flooded fields

In the current monsoon season in the Chalanbil dominated area of Sirajganj, about 5 thousand hectares of newly planted seedlings of Aman paddy have been submerged due to waterlogging caused by continuous rains of several days. And the local affected farmers said that this problem has arisen due to the illegal digging of ponds in all those areas.
They also demanded a permanent solution to such waterlogging in the cropland of the area. On the other hand, farmers are worried about crop cultivation due to permanent waterlogging in many lands. The area has been visited on the ground.
In the upazila of Talam, Desigram, Madhainagar, Tarash Sadar and Baruhans Union, about 5 thousand hectares of cropland has accumulated water due to continuous rain for several days. As a result, .
Aminul Haque, a farmer of Manikchapar village in Talam Union, said that as a result, the farmers of that area have suffered a lot of financial loss.
He also said that the flooding has occurred due to the digging of ponds and blocking of water flow. Therefore, if the water does not drain quickly from the land, the planted rice plants will rot. Farmers will face a lot of losses in this.
Sohrab Hossain, a farmer of Arangail village in the injured Desigram Union, said many people, without thinking about the common farmers, the local influential and self-interested groups are violating the land management principles and cutting their fertile agricultural land in an unplanned manner, digging ponds and cultivating fish. Due to this, the upstream flood water is prevented from coming down. As a result, waterlogging has occurred in our three crop fields. The rice seedlings planted in these lands are submerged in water.
Abdallah Al Mamun, officer of agriculture at Tarash Upazila, said that due to the heavy rains of several days, water has accumulated in the fields and caused water logging. All the land in which Ropa Aman rice seedlings are planted. If the water recedes quickly from those lands, there will not be much damage to the seedling rice.
