Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner in Tangail on Sunday (October 12), placing five key demands including the introduction of a Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system in the upcoming national election. The memorandum, addressed to the Chief Adviser, was received by Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque on behalf of the government.
Prior to the submission, Jamaat leaders and activists held a brief rally in front of the Central Shaheed Minar in the town. Speakers at the rally included Tangail district Ameer Ahsan Habib Masud, Nayeb-e-Ameer Professor Khondokar Abdur Razzak, Secretary Maulana Humayun Kabir, Assistant Secretary Hosne Mobarak Babul, Professor Shafiqul Islam Khan, Principal Abdullah Talukder, and Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Tangail District President Md. Mazharul Islam.
The event was conducted by Professor Iqbal Hossain Badol, Ameer of Sadar Upazila Jamaat. Among others present were District Organizing Secretary Shahidul Islam, Sadar Upazila Secretary Alomgir Hossain, and City Secretary Md. Saiful Islam. Following the rally, a procession was brought out, which marched to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, where the party delegation formally submitted the memorandum.
The five-point charter includes:
- Holding the next national election in February based on the National Charter declared in July.
- Introducing a Proportional Representation (PR) system in parliamentary elections.
- Ensuring a level playing field for all political parties.
- Justice for oppression, persecution, and corruption under the current regime.
- Imposing a ban on the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance.
