The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), AMM Nasir Uddin, has stated that the decision on whether the Awami League will retain its registration and participate in the upcoming national election will depend on the passage of time.

“Time will determine whether the Awami League maintains its registration and takes part in the election. The Election Commission is actively working on this matter,” the CEC remarked during a press briefing at the Sylhet Circuit House on Saturday.

The statement was made during a views-exchange meeting focused on updating the voter list and preparing for the upcoming national election.

In response to queries about the feasibility of holding all local government elections simultaneously, the CEC refrained from giving a definitive response. “It is not practical to conduct all elections on the same day,” he stated.

Discussing the election process, the CEC confirmed that electronic voting machines (EVMs) will not be used in the upcoming national election. “EVMs will not be utilized in the national polls.

We are dedicated to conducting the elections as per the timeline set by the Chief Adviser, adhering strictly to the prescribed guidelines,” he emphasized.

The CEC also announced that, for the first time, expatriates will have the opportunity to cast their votes in the national election.

The meeting in Sylhet included election officials and stakeholders, who deliberated on strategies to ensure a transparent and timely electoral process.
