All key sectors experience slower expansion in June

In June, all major sectors of Bangladesh’s economy including agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and services recorded a deceleration in growth, according to the Bangladesh Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) compiled by the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI).

The PMI declined sharply by 6.2 points to 63.9% in June from 70.9% in May.

In detail, the agriculture sector’s PMI fell to 70.2% in June from 79.3% in May, marking a notable decrease.
The manufacturing sector saw the steepest decline, dropping to 61.7% in June from 76.3% in May. Similarly, the construction sector declined to 65.3% in June compared to 74.3% in May.

The service sector also experienced a slight contraction, with its PMI decreasing to 63.5% in June from 64.3% in May.

This slowdown follows a trend observed since April, where the pace of expansion across these sectors has been gradually moderating.
