Prof Ali Riaz, Vice Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, on Tuesday stressed that the success of the ongoing political dialogue depends largely on the unity among Bangladesh’s democratic forces.
“Our level of success will be determined by how strongly the democratic forces in Bangladesh can stay united,” he said during his opening remarks at a dialogue between the National Consensus Commission and the Revolutionary Workers Party, held at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Complex.
Reflecting on the broader series of dialogues with political parties, Prof Riaz acknowledged both common ground and differing views. “There is significant consensus on many issues,” he said. “At the same time, we recognize differences, which we aim to address through continued dialogue. A democratic society is, by nature, pluralistic. We may not speak the same language on every issue, but we share a common goal — and that shared purpose unites us.”
He further emphasized the urgency of the moment, calling on all stakeholders not to squander this opportunity. “The people of this country expect us to act. Now is the time to begin building a truly representative and democratic state.”
A 10-member delegation from the Revolutionary Workers Party, led by General Secretary Saiful Haque, participated in the talks. The discussion was chaired by Prof Riaz and attended by Consensus Commission members Safar Raj Hossain, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, and Dr Iftekharuzzaman. Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, moderated the event.
