AL leader Alfu arrested in Sylhet who widely discussed as ‘red’ for looting white stones
Sylhet Bureau :
Law enforcement agencies have arrested Awami League leader Abdul Wadud Alfu Chairman, who has become ‘red’ for looting stones from the white stone tourist center in Sylhet and taking a lease of Dhalai Nad South Balu Mahal in the name of Brother in law.
He was arrested from the Companiganj Upazila Police Station headquarters office at 5 pm on Saturday (October 4). Alfu Chairman is the Chairman of Telikhal Union Parishad of Companiganj Upazila and the Senior Vice President of the Upazila Awami League.
The arrest was confirmed by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Upazila, Sylhet. Md. Ratan Sheikh.
He said, “We are conducting more operations with the arrested Alfu chairman.” He said, “Details will be given after the operation.” Incidentally, since July 20, the stones of the Sadapathar tourist center in Sylhet have been depleted at a rapid pace in the first week of August. Later, investigations showed that the district administration leased the ‘Dhalai River South Sand Mahal’ adjacent to the Dhalai Bridge, located near Sadapathar, for sand extraction. A search of the documents showed that the lease agreement was executed on July 21, 2025. Messrs. Bhai Bhai Enterprise leased 217.70 acres of the Dhalai River for an annual fee of 6.75 million 50 taka. Its owner is Abdullah Al Mamun. However, there is information that two influential people are involved behind this. One of them is Abdul Odud Alfu, chairman of Telikhal Union Parishad of Companiganj Upazila and senior vice-president of the Upazila Awami League. It is alleged that Alfu Gong recklessly extracted sand from outside the lease area in the name of extracting sand from the ‘Dhalai River South Sand Mahal’. He also used the riverbed in this area to loot stones, rapidly depleting the stone.
