Staff Reporter :

Despite having an organizational structure, the Awami League’s internal functionality has been disrupted. Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuz Alam said that the party has become bankrupt since 2014.

Speaking as a special guest at a book launching ceremony at a hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday, the adviser said, “The July uprising has created a golden opportunity for reform.” However, he emphasized that previous administrations, both after the political transformation of 1990 and during the army-backed caretaker regime, had promised and attempted major reforms.

The information adviser stated that today’s main task is not merely to implement good policies, but to address the existing structural problems.

He said, “Political objectives do not mean only reforms or changing the names or titles of institutions. Rather, the aim is the abolition of the old system and the creation of a new political order.”

He further added that this approach was deliberately integrated with the ‘one-point demand’.
According to the adviser, during the July discussions, the demand was not only for the fall of Hasina, but also for the abolition of the political system and the establishment of a new political arrangement.
