Mohamed al-Bashir announced on Tuesday in a televised statement that he has been appointed as the caretaker prime minister of Syria’s transitional government, a role he will hold until March 1, 2025.
Before the 12-day lightning offensive that led to the capture of Damascus, Al-Bashir served as the head of the rebel-led Salvation Government.
Earlier, toppled president Bashar al-Assad’s prime minister, al-Jalali, agreed to hand power to the opposition-led Salvation Government, headed by al-Bashir.
