In a press conference held at the Awami League President’s political office in Dhanmondi, Awami League General Secretary and Road, Transport, and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday stated that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has failed to achieve its desired outcomes from the United States (US).

Quader emphasized that while Awami League is open to collaboration with foreign allies, it refuses to be subjected to dominance.

He explained that the lack of a visible reaction from BNP after discussions with American representatives stems from their inability to secure their desired outcomes from the US.

Addressing the recent visit of the US delegation, Quader highlighted that the purpose was to strengthen relations with the government.

He added, “We seek friendship with foreigners. We do not accept slavery to those who want to be masters instead of friends.”

Responding to concerns about the increased debt payment of 300 crore dollars this year, Quader acknowledged the necessity to fulfill the debt obligations. He attributed the global financial crisis to the rising debt but assured that Bangladesh has a track record of not defaulting and remains committed to staying out of debt.

Quader addressed the worries about public dissatisfaction due to rising commodity prices, stating that the people have demonstrated resilience against political provocations. He expressed confidence that the citizens understand the global challenges and believe in the government’s responsibility.

Critiquing BNP’s continual propagation of falsehoods, Quader accused them of attempting to shift blame onto the government for their own failures, including abstaining from the January 7 general polls and the inability to initiate a successful movement.

Despite global price hikes, Quader reassured that Bangladesh is not alone in facing economic challenges. He expressed optimism about the citizens’ purchasing power, stating hopes that commodities will remain accessible in the upcoming Ramadan.

Quader concluded by condemning what he described as BNP’s negative mentality, emphasizing the lack of public interest in their recent activities.
