Adviser on Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said on Sunday that law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring the situation as the Awami League (AL) announced its programme on the occasion of Victory Day.
He said, “We have seen that they [Awami League and Chhatra League] have announced a programme for Monday. They have announced various programmes in the past as well, but those did not take place. However, the law enforcement agencies are on alert regarding this matter.”
The advisor made this remark after the meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Committee, held on Sunday at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The meeting was chaired by Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
He said, “A decision has been made to intensify the arrest operation in response to various misdeeds by Awami League leaders and activists. There is a possibility that Awami League and Chhatra League may create chaos at any time. As long as they are not completely eliminated, they will continue these attempts.”
Earlier, the Bangladesh Awami League announced its programme for Victory Day through a post from its verified Facebook page. The party has outlined various activities, including paying tribute at the National Memorial and holding a discussion session, among other events.
