AL accuses BNP of being ‘slaves of foreign lords’

Staff Reporter :
In a heated exchange of words on Saturday, Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister, Obaidul Quader, launched a scathing attack on the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), accusing them of being subservient to foreign interests in their pursuit of power.

Quader’s remarks came during his interaction with journalists after paying homage to Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq on the occasion of his 62nd death anniversary.

Quader’s allegations were triggered by recent comments from BNP leaders, who accused the ruling AL of being beholden to foreign powers to maintain their grip on power. In response, Quader retorted that the accusation actually applies more fittingly to the BNP, which, according to him, operates as a “slave of foreign lords” in its quest for political dominance. The AL stalwart further asserted that the BNP’s strategies for gaining power are detached from popular support, indicating that the opposition party relies on external influences rather than genuine public backing. Quader warned that BNP is currently engaged in a conspiracy to seize power by aligning itself with foreign interests.

During the commemoration of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq’s legacy, Quader reiterated his party’s commitment to the principles upheld by the iconic leader. He praised Fazlul Huq’s dedication to the welfare of the common people, particularly farmers and workers, emphasising the historical significance of Huq’s contributions.

Quader also used the occasion to underscore AL’s vision of a non-communal Bangladesh, echoing the aspirations of national figures such as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, Mawlana Bhashani, and Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq. He emphasised the ongoing efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to realise this vision and build a nation free from communal divisions.

The event was attended by prominent AL leaders, including members of the party’s Praesidium and various associate bodies, who joined Quader in paying homage to Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Huq.

Quader’s remarks reflect the escalating political tensions between the ruling AL and the opposition BNP, highlighting the deep-rooted ideological and strategic differences that continue to shape Bangladesh’s political landscape. As both parties gear up for the upcoming electoral challenges, such confrontations are expected to remain at the forefront of the national discourse.
