Film actor Ahmed Sharif has been living in the United States for a long time. He comes back to the country occasionally.
The actor thinks that if he had been in the country, he would have had to beg for food.
The Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association organised a programme at the BFDC on Sunday to commemorate the late film artistes. The programme, titled ‘Scenes of Legends in the Mirror of Memory’, commemorated the artists who passed away since the establishment of the Association until August 2025.
Ahmed Sharif spoke about the financial situation of the film industry, artistes and people at the event. Expressing his disappointment, he said, “I would like to ask a question, how many people in the country are currently assured of a good food system for tomorrow or next month?
How many people are there in the film industry who can say for sure that they have two meals a day? If I am not lying, then no. If I were in Bangladesh today, I can say for sure that I would have to beg and eat from people to get by.”
Ahmed Sharif believes that many artistes are being forced to migrate abroad in the struggle to survive. He said, “Many artistes are leaving the country. Not only film, but also TV artistes are leaving because, there is no opportunity for entertainment or peace in the country.
Artistes are not properly valued. We want the country to do well and prosper. If I come to the country in the future, I will ask the government to ensure that arrangements are made for the survival of artistes.”
