Additional Secretary of the Extension Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Md. Zakir Hossain, said, Agro-tourism should be developed in Sylhet region through the use of modern agricultural technology. Farmers should be trained through the creation and training of agricultural entrepreneurs. In the implementation of projects in agriculture, priority should be given to the profitable crops of farmers, improvement and increase in agricultural yield and change in food habits. Those concerned with agriculture should be more sincere in increasing agricultural production by adopting information-based plans to bring uncultivated fallow land under cultivation. He called on everyone to work sincerely to modernize the agricultural system.
The Additional Secretary said, farmers should be advised to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and use biofertilizers and biopesticides to protect soil health. The prices of agricultural products including fertilizers and seeds in the market should be properly monitored. Seed production and conservation at the farmer level should be increased. He instructed the concerned to be vigilant so that all agricultural statistics are reliable and accurate.
He said the above words as the chief guest while exchanging views with the heads of departments/organizations under the Ministry of Agriculture of Sylhet region at the conference room of the Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet region on Friday (August 22) morning.
The meeting was chaired by the Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet region, Krishibid Dr. Md. Mosharraf Hossain and moderated by the Acting Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Sylhet, Krishibid Deepak Kumar Das.
Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (Finance and Administration) of the United Nations, Dr. Mohammad Kazi Mujibur Rahman also spoke as special guest.
Agricultural officers from various districts and upazila levels of Sylhet division were present at the meeting.
Later, the chief guest interacted with the beneficiaries of the Sylhet Region Agricultural Development Project (1st Revised) through Modern Technology. At the end of the program, the chief guest planted a tree sapling in the farm premises and inspected the ongoing projects, seed and pesticide shops, seed and fertilizer warehouses and agricultural farms of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation Sylhet and the Department of Agricultural Marketing.
