A three-day Agricultural Technology Fair has begun in Dakshin Surma, officially inaugurated on Tuesday afternoon by Upazila Executive Officer Urmi Roy at the Upazila Parishad premises. The event commenced with a ceremonial release of balloons, marking the beginning of the fair.

Organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Dakshin Surma, and funded by FRIPA, the fair aims to highlight innovations and advancements in agriculture. Speaking as the chief guest, Executive Officer Urmi Roy emphasized agriculture’s vital role in national development.

“Agriculture is the backbone of our country’s progress. Development in this sector is synonymous with the development of the nation,” Roy stated. She underscored the government’s focus on implementing comprehensive agricultural strategies to meet both development goals and the country’s food demands.

To achieve food self-sufficiency, she stressed the importance of transforming unused land into productive farmland, aligning with the DAE’s mission to ensure “not even an inch of land remains uncultivated.” Roy encouraged all citizens to contribute by cultivating their own land and embracing technology to build a modern, agriculture-driven Bangladesh.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Upazila Agriculture Officer Gautam Pal and conducted by Additional Agriculture Officer Dipankar Sutradhar. Distinguished guests in attendance included Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Md. Monowar Hossain, Upazila Engineer Sheikh Azimur Rashid, Social Service Officer Md. Abdul Muntakim, Election Officer Abul Hasnat, Information Officer Badrunnahar Beauty, Youth Development Officer Shafiqul Islam, Food Controller Officer Jahangir Arif Khan, and press club leaders M. Ahmed Ali, Jahangir Alam Musik, and Ashraful Islam Imran.

The event also saw the participation of Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officers from various unions, officials from different government departments, and local farmer representatives.

Following the opening ceremony, Executive Officer Urmi Roy toured the fairgrounds, engaging with stall owners and learning about their displays. Over the course of the three-day event, 19 stalls will showcase a variety of fruits, vegetables, seeds, and modern agricultural technologies. Informational leaflets and expert advice on farming practices will also be available to attendees.
