A 6-day agricultural technology fair was inaugurated in Sylhet. Sylhet district administration and Agriculture Extension Department organised this fair on Sunday. Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury attended the programme as a chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Sheikh Russel Hasan presided over the programme presented by Metropolitan Agriculture Officer Saima Nazneen.Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Directorate, Agronomist Khair Uddin Mollah gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the programme.
The mayor in his speech said, to make Bangladesh self-sufficient in food, we need to improve our agriculture sector. Food is basic human need. In order to meet this demand, the current Awami League government under the leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is making great progress in the agricultural sector.
He also said that the Bangladesh Agriculture Extension Directorate is working tirelessly to fulfill the prime minister’s directive that ‘not even an inch of land should remain uncultivated’. Future Bangladesh will depend on technology. To make the country self-sufficient in food, we all have to make an agricultural revolution. Expatriate Bangladeshis need to convert their uncultivated land into crops to play a leading role in agriculture to advance the country. He urged everyone to cultivate their own land and advance the country in the name of agriculture.
On the occasion, six varieties of seedlings were distributed among 100 farmers.
