A mother and her son were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a Mahindra (three-wheeler) at Mahilara in Gournadi Upazila of Barishal. The deceased are Sumi Aktar, 30, wife of Azam Mridha from Datterabad area under Ratnapur union of Agoiljhara upazila and their son Azmain, 4, said Bipul Hossain, station officer of Gournadi fire service station of the district.
The incident took place on Sunday (August 25) around 1.30 pm in Bezhar area of Mahilara union of the upazila on Barishal-Dhaka-highway.
Six seriously injured people have been admitted to Barishal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital. The mother and son of the seriously injured died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Gournadi Highway Police Station OC Golam Rasul said that the accident occurred when a Mahendra (three wheeler) from Gournadi collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound bus of Jamuna Line Paribahon bus.
All the injured and dead were Mahendra passengers and dead bodies presrved at SBMCH morgue for autopsy, the highway police sources said.
