Agriculture Extension Department (AED), Gopalganj has taken a massive programme of Boro farming on 77,530 hectores of land in the district this current year.
According to officials sources said, 48,320 hectors of high yielding variety (HYV) 29,180 hectors of Upashi variety and 30 hectors of local variety. Where probable production target at 3,87,650 metric tonnes (MT), sources said. About 92,500 small, marginal & big farmers under five upazilas in the district involved this Boro farming, this current year.
Rabiul Farazi (35) of village Nelokhi under Durgapur union of Sadar Upazila in the district said, he cultivated SL8H (super hybrid) on two local bighas of land (104 decimal) this current year. But the condition of it growth is good and I got a good output from it produce this year, Rabiul added.
Sekender Sheikh, Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO), Gopalganj Sadar Upazila told The New Nation. maximum farmers in this region area farming origin high yielding variety (HYV) for more production from Boro farming. Because a small quantity of land but produce is big, UAO said.
Imtiaz Molla (50) a farmer of village Hatigata under Sadar Upazila in Gopalgnj said, he cultivated on three local bighas of land (156 decimal) origin hybrid Hira-2, it is a more production origin seed and we are more benefited from beginning it farming. But spending cost weller too. One kilogram of seed is being selling at the rate of taka 350 but earlier it was taka 290, Imtiaz added.
Ramesh Chandra Bramha, Deputy Director (DD), Agriculture, Gopalganj told The New Nation farmers in this region farming on their land sent percent hybrid origin like, Hira laltir, suganda, SL8H, Gold, sunar bangla-6 with etc. and farmers in this region are more benefit from those origin. This current year at least 92,500 farmers involved this farming in the district, DD added.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC), Gopalganj has distributed 55 metric tonnes (MT) different origin of seed among the remote farmers this current season, sources said.
It is more mentioned that some farmers of Durgapur union under Sadar Upazila told The New Nation a section of poor farmer in our areas not interested for their Boro farming due to low price of paddy, they added.
