Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuz Alam held a meeting with Suman Bhattacharya, the Representative of UNESCO Bangladesh, on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, says a press release.
During the discussion, Adviser stated that the Ministry is working to safeguard the rights of journalists and ensure the responsible coverage of public events, especially in the context of the upcoming National Parliamentary Elections. He emphasised that a fair and neutral media environment is crucial for free and independent elections.
He assured that the government is committed to providing all necessary support to the media. He added that, currently, there is no government censorship of media questions and that the government values responsible journalism.
The meeting also addressed collaboration with UNESCO on media protection, professional capacity building, and training initiatives. The Ministry’s efforts to support ethical journalism and counter misinformation were discussed. The head of UNESCO’s Bangladesh Cultural Division was also present during the meeting.
