Advocate Ehsanul Haque Shomaji will not assume the position of public prosecutor (PP) at the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court.
Citing personal and family reasons, he announced his decision not to take up the role just two days after being appointed. He detailed his reasons for declining the position in a letter sent to the Solicitor Wing of the Law and Justice Department on Thursday.
In the letter, he said: “As a regular member of the Dhaka Bar Association for nearly 38 years, I have always prioritized professional integrity and have performed my duties with sincerity and dedication.
“To maintain this professional integrity and due to personal and family reasons, I am unable to join the position of metropolitan public prosecutor. I sincerely apologize for this. I support the efforts for state reform and am willing to provide full legal assistance in the future if the administration requests.”
A letter signed by Deputy Solicitor Sana Md Mahroof Hossain was sent to the Dhaka district magistrate, informing them of Ehsanul Haque Shamaji’s appointment as the new Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court public prosecutor on Tuesday.
Previously, during the caretaker government, he served as a public prosecutor for two years. However, his appointment faced opposition and protests from BNP-affiliated lawyers.
