In the aftermath of the brutal killing of scrap trader Mohammad Shohagh in Old Dhaka, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP, has accused the government of intentionally paralyzing the administration, leading to a deterioration in law and order across the country.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Saturday, Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna alleged that the government’s inaction is part of a deliberate strategy to prolong the holding of the national election amidst a growing state of lawlessness.

Munna, alongside leaders from Swechchhasebak Dal and Chhatra Dal, condemned the authorities’ failure to arrest the main culprits behind Shohagh’s murder, despite clear video and CCTV evidence identifying the attackers.

“Even though the killers are clearly visible in the footage, they haven’t been named in the case or arrested. Instead, three individuals allegedly uninvolved were included—according to the victim’s daughter,” Munna said, referencing a media report.

He further questioned the delayed public circulation of the incident.
“The killing happened on Wednesday, yet it became public on Friday. Why the delay? Who orchestrated it and for what purpose?” he asked, urging an investigation into the matter.

Munna also criticized the inclusion of innocent people in the case while omitting those seen on camera, saying it raises serious concerns.
“Over 60 hours have passed, but the prime suspects are still free. This selective inaction is alarming.”

While denying any connection between the attackers and their affiliated bodies, Munna confirmed that five activists from Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal have been expelled for life after their names were listed in the police case.
“We’ve taken organisational responsibility. Now we call on law enforcement to do their part and arrest them without delay.”

Munna strongly condemned the killing, describing it as “barbaric and inhuman.”
“In broad daylight, Shohagh—a Jubo Dal activist from Chawkbazar—was beaten to death with stones. The nation is horrified. Such primitive savagery has no place in a civilized society,” he said.

According to police, four people have so far been arrested in connection with the murder. The video footage, which went viral on Friday, triggered massive public outrage and further pressure on law enforcement agencies to take swift action.

Jubo Dal leaders reiterated their demand for a full, impartial investigation to ensure justice for Shohagh and accountability for all involved—both the perpetrators and those who allegedly manipulated the case.
