Several public and private organisations are working in coordination
with Port City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury to save people’s life and property from the cyclone.
On May 13 at CCC office near Tiger Pass, the panel mayor, councilors, representatives of Chittagong district administration, Chattogram Metropolitan Police, Ansar, Red Crescent and other public and private service organisations sat in a joint meeting.
In the meeting, they highlighted the progress of implementation of the decision taken to deal with Mocha and the actions to be taken.
Earlier, City Mayor Rezaul Karim visited the open control room on the ground floor of CCC Power sub-division building at Dampara in Chowdhury Nagar in Chattogram.
After that, the Mayor visited various risk areas and shelters including Patenga Beach, Ajmal Ali Ghat, Rasmoni Ghat and ordered to evacuate all people including tourists from the risk areas by 5:00pm. Mayor also visited Halishahar Sluisgate area along Link Road after overseeing the ongoing work of filling the canal with scavengers due to the risk of tidal water entering the settlement.
The Mayor said in the meeting, “We have taken several decisions and implemented it after issuing the number two warning signal to avoid the cyclone. From morning inspection, I think CCC is ready to face Mocha. Since morning seven vehicles are being miked to leave the dangerous area and go to the shelter. I have myself miked for the evacuation of people from risk areas. If necessary, the administration and law enforcement forces will use force to evacuate vulnerable people. I instruct the councilors to contact the respective police stations and take the people who are at risk at the foot of the hill to the shelter.” Meanwhile district administration led by Senior Asstt Commissioner Towhidul Alam conducted raid in Motijharna-Battali hill pockets and evacuated risky 100 families yesterday afternoon. In total CCC, district administration, fire services evacuated more than 50 thousand vulnerable people from coastal areas and risly hill pockets yesterday to a safer place. Naval and coast guard forces also join hand with the evacuation and supply of dry food to the coastal areas people, sources said.
