Additional DIG of Police, Hamidul Alam Milon, a native of Sariakandi Upazila in Bogura, has been placed on compulsory retirement for participating in his wife’s campaign during the 12th parliamentary elections.
According to a gazette issued on Wednesday (10 September) under the President’s order, he has been sent on compulsory retirement.
The gazette states that the proven allegations against him constitute “misconduct” under Rule 3(b) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, and Section 45(1) of the Government Servants Act, 2018. It also notes that, as a responsible government officer, Milon’s actions amounted to a breach of discipline, unethical conduct, and a violation of official norms. Consequently, the government had no alternative but to place him on compulsory retirement.
Sources said that in September–October 2023, Additional DIG Milon took a month-long leave citing illness. The allegations against him include actively campaigning for his wife in the Bogura-1 (Sariakandi–Sonatala) constituency. Reports suggest that he regularly communicated with local leaders and activists via WhatsApp and other channels to plan election strategies. When it became known that a high-ranking police officer was directly participating in election campaigning, the Discipline Wing of Police Headquarters, led by a DIG, initiated an investigation. The inquiry confirmed that Hamidul Alam Milon had violated government service rules.
