A delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) visited the
Urban Primary Health Project in Tarabo Municipality, Rupganj,
Narayanganj. On Friday (August 10), the team inspected two urban
health centers under the project. Later, they attended a discussion
meeting with municipal authorities and local administration officials at
the Tarabo Municipality auditorium.
The meeting was presided over by Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner
Jahidul Islam Miah, with Riazul Maksud Jahedi, Secretary of the Local
Government Division, attending as the chief guest.
In his speech, Secretary Riazul Maksud Jahedi said, “People in rural and
semi-urban areas of our country, particularly those from low- and
middle-income backgrounds, are still not adequately aware of health
issues. Numerous industries have developed in Tarabo Municipality, and
the workers and low-income residents there are receiving affordable
healthcare services through the ADB-funded Urban Primary Health
Project. If this project is expanded nationwide, it will greatly benefit
low-income communities.”
Also speaking at the event were Saiful Islam, Administrator of Tarabo
Municipality and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Shigeo Shimizu,
Executive Director of ADB Japan, and Ho Yan Xiong Steve, ADB
Country Director, among others.
After visiting the urban health centers in Tarabo Municipality, the ADB
delegation from Japan expressed their satisfaction with the project’s
implementation.
