Popular actress Nusrat Faria was sent to jail by a Dhaka court on Monday in connection with an attempted murder case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Naznin Akter passed the order after Faria was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in the morning. Sub-Inspector Billal Bhuiyan, the investigating officer, requested that she be held in jail, while her lawyers submitted a bail petition.
Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki opposed the bail plea during the hearing. The court scheduled May 22 for the hearing on the bail application.
Faria was detained by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday while trying to leave for Thailand. She was later handed over to Bhatara police and subsequently taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office for questioning.
According to the case details, Nusrat Faria is among 18 people, including actors Apu Biswas, Nipun Akter, Ashna Habib Bhabna, and Zayed Khan, named in an attempted murder case filed during an anti-discrimination movement in Dhaka’s Bhatara area.
The case, filed on April 29 at Bhatara Police Station following a court directive, also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 283 others.
Faria has been accused of allegedly funding the Awami League, which the complainant claims opposed the anti-discrimination movement.
Nusrat Faria began her career as a radio jockey before moving into television hosting in 2013. She transitioned into acting with her film debut in 2015’s Aashiqui, a Bangladesh-India joint production that brought her widespread recognition. Since then, she has appeared in nearly 20 films in both Dhallywood and Tollywood.
