Entertainment Report :

Director N Rashed Chowdhury produced the movie ‘Chandrabati Kotha’ with government grant. The movie was released in 2013-14 but the film was released in 2021. However, actress Dilruba Hossain Doyel said that she has not received the remuneration for that movie yet.
The actress made such a complaint against the director in a TV programme recently.
Actress Dilruba Doyel said, “I acted in the government grant movie ‘Chandrabati Kotha’. Later, the film was co-produced by Bengal Creations. Channel i bought its digital rights. It took almost five years to release the movie. Even after three years of release, why are the crew, art people, costume people, and production people not getting money? The director did not have a problem. This year he got a grant for one more movie.”
Why did not complain so far? – When asked, Doyel said, “At that time these words could not be said. And who would I say? Actors’ Equity? I am not a member of any organisation. What is Actors’ Equity actually doing? How many artistes have come forward with personal problems? If an artiste dies, they organise Milad. But how many times an artiste dies while living – have we ever thought? The same is true of the Film Artistes’ Association. When I went to shoot for Apu Biswas’ movie ‘Lal Saree’, I was told to become a member of Film Artistes’ Association. Why should I be a member of that organisation? Did someone from the BFDC call us to work? They have already assumed that we are people from media, they are from film industry. So, why should they be members of the organisation? To liaison?”
Due to the syndicate, many artistes are not getting work, do not get proper remuneration, Doyel thinks.
This actress has also accused BTV of arbitrariness. While talking in this regard, she said, “Even after applying six times, I could not be a listed artiste of BTV. Once they wanted to enroll me that too as a third grade artiste. I said, why? You took my audition. Then decided which category I belong to. But they said, ‘this is how to come here.’ So, talent has no price?”
After the fall of the Awami League government, everyone is demanding reforms in their own way. Actress Doyel wants reforms in the showbiz arena.
This actress feels that it is necessary to take initiative to remove various types of irregularities including discrimination among artistes, and not getting proper remuneration on time.
When trying to contact the director N Rashed Chowdhury to inquire about Doyel’s complaint, his mobile phone was found switched off.
