‘Actions to be taken to resolve flooding’

Chattagram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain said, to solve the problem of water logging in Chattagram, quick and effective initiatives should be taken before the monsoon season. He gave this instruction at a coordination meeting of the Cleanliness and Planning Department held on Monday (27 Jan).
In the meeting, Mayor Dr. Shahadat said, “The shortage of necessary equipment, including wheel excavators, to resolve water logging must be filled immediately. We have already procured two backhoe loader vehicles at a cost of Tk 5 crore.
Initiatives have been taken to distribute 40,000 bins to business establishments. I am regularly monitoring the wards. “The equipment that has become obsolete due to lack of renovation should be repaired and made usable again. In some areas, the roads are broken, which makes it impossible for people to walk. In many places, WASA has dug up the roads, so we are not able to work there. The rainy season will start in a few months, so as much work as possible should be done by this February-March.
Good quality bitumen and construction materials should be used in road renovation. Mayor ordered to take action to reduce the winter mosquito infestation. He said, “We should spray mosquito repellent regularly to control mosquitoes and improve the environment through cleanliness.”The meeting decided to allocate 20 cleaning workers to each regional executive officer for cleaning drains. It is expected that the drain cleaning work will be completed quickly through this initiative. Chief Executive Officer of CCC Sheikh Muhammad Touhidul Islam, Secretary Md. Ashraful Amin and Chief Cleaning Officer were present during the meeting. Commander Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chief Engineer Mohammad Abul Kashem and other officials of the Cleanliness and Engineering Department. Social activist Shahriar Khaled expressed his views on the water logging of the city in the meeting.
