The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has suspended an official over allegations of taking bribes to clear a former housing company chairman from a graft case.
The suspended officer, Mohammad Zulfikar, served as an assistant director at the ACC’s headquarters in Dhaka.
According to a suspension order signed by ACC Chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen on Thursday, Zulfikar is accused of receiving money from the former chairman of RKD Real Estate Company on multiple occasions.
The order also alleges that Zulfikar claimed to have bought a flat at a reduced price but never registered it in his name, instead living there rent-free with his family. He is further accused of using a private car without proper declaration. The ACC said the decision to suspend him was made at a commission meeting on Aug 27, citing the “seriousness of the allegations and state interests”, reports bdnews24.com.
The order took effect immediately. Under government rules, Zulfikar will receive subsistence allowance during his suspension. Zulfikar’s removal comes after the ACC suspended several other officials in recent weeks.
On Jul 17, Deputy Director Kamalesh Mondal was suspended, followed by Md Ahsanul Kabir Palash on Aug 6.
On the same day as Zulfikar’s suspension, ACC Deputy Director Mahbubul Alam was also suspended by the agency following allegations of graft and illicit enrichment.
