The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque and seven others over allegations of acquiring a 10-katha plot by providing false information.
ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain disclosed the matter to reporters on Monday.
As per the case details, Justice Khairul Haque allegedly misused his official position, submitted a false affidavit, and engaged in fraud to obtain the plot from Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).
The allotment violated Rule 13 of the Dhaka Improvement Trust (Allotment of Lands) Rules, 1969.
The rule mandates that plots cancelled due to false information or lease violations must be re-allotted through a committee process. The list of successful applicants is publicly released, and surplus applications-if deposits remain-are carried over to future allotments.
Those found ineligible initially are not reconsidered. ACC DG Akhter told Khairul Haque, with the direct assistance of Rajuk officials, bypassed these procedures. He failed to pay the plot instalments with interest within the deadline, and five years after retirement, he made the payment without paying any interest-despite there being no provision for such a waiver.
This irregular payment caused a financial loss to the government by evading Tk4,74,240 in interest, violated Rajuk’s policies, and is considered a punishable offence, he added.
The seven other individuals accused in the case are former Rajuk chairman Md Nurul Huda, former joint secretary and member (Development) M Mahbubul Alam, member (Finance & Estate) Golam Kibria, member (Planning) Md Anwarul Islam Sikder, member (Estate) Akhtar Hossain Bhuiyan, member (Administration & Land) Nazmul Hai, and member Md Abu Bakkar Sikder.
