ACC sues against ex-minister Dipu Moni, husband

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against former Social Welfare Minister and ousted Awami League (AL) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Chandpur-3 constituency, Dipu Moni, and her husband, Tawfique Nawaz.
The ACC stated that they were sued on charges of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 7.88 crore and engaging in suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 31.09 crore.
They have been charged under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, ACC Director General (Prevention) Akhtar Hossain told reporters in the capital on Monday (10 February).
Dipu Moni is accused of abusing her power to acquire assets worth Tk 5.92 crore beyond her known sources of income. She is also alleged to have suspicious deposits of Tk 31.09 crore in 28 bank accounts under her name, with further suspicious transactions involving the transfer and conversion of these funds, Akhtar said.
However, the ACC official did not provide details
regarding the timing of these transactions.
Meanwhile, Nawaz is accused of abusing his power and colluding with Dipu Moni through bribery and corruption while serving as a public servant. He is alleged to have acquired assets worth Tk 1.96 crore beyond his known sources of income, Akhtar added.
