Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a raid at Chattogram Regional Election Commission office on Wednesday over allegations of irregularities related to the correction of national identity cards (NIDs).
The operation was led by Emran Hossain, Assistant Director of the Chattogram ACC Integrated Office-1.
During the raid, a four-member ACC team interviewed senior officials from both the Regional Election Commission and the District Election Commission offices to investigate the alleged irregularities.
According to sources, ACC is probing four NID corrections that have remained unresolved for a long time.
Speaking to journalists, Emran Hossain said, “We inquired about the four NID corrections, which have now been rectified.
Additionally, there are allegations that those involved in the corrections engaged in financial transactions. We are investigating these claims.”
He added, “We have identified four bank account numbers allegedly used for financial transactions. We have requested information from the concerned authorities, who denied ownership of these accounts. We will verify the true owners of these accounts.”
Regional Election Officer Belayet Hossain commented on ACC’s visit, saying, “The four NIDs about which information was sought have already been corrected. They also requested details on various other office matters, which we provided. If any officer or employee from my office is found involved in irregularities, appropriate action will be taken against them.”
