ACC launches inquiry into corruption

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation against four individuals, including former Railway Minister and Comilla-11 MP Mujibul Haque, and former Comilla-6 MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar. They are accused of amassing illegal wealth through various irregularities and corruption.

Additionally, the ACC is investigating Bahar’s daughter, former Comilla City Corporation Mayor Tahsin Bahar Suchana, and former Local Government, Rural Development and Social Welfare Minister’s former personal secretary, Md Kamal Hossain.

The decision to open the inquiry was made on Tuesday (October 8), and ACC Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam confirmed the news.

These four individuals face allegations of money laundering, abuse of power, and mismanagement of funds from various development projects, leading to the accumulation of significant illegal wealth both domestically and abroad. The investigation is based on information from the ACC’s intelligence unit.

Former Railway Minister Mujibul Haque is accused of embezzling funds from several railway development projects through irregularities in tender processes, recruitment, and accumulating assets beyond his known income, including those in the names of family members.

The ACC has launched the investigation following a request by lawyer Md Zia Uddin. Bahauddin Bahar, his daughter Tahsin Bahar Suchana, and others are accused of mismanagement of development project funds, abuse of power, and engaging in corruption involving recruitment and tender processes.
