The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Bangladesh has discovered 14 apartments in New York, USA, under the name of Tamal Monsur, the son of former Health Minister Mohammad Nasim. The market value of these apartments is estimated at around 64 crore Bangladeshi Taka.

Following the ACC’s request, the Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge Court has ordered the seizure of these properties. The order was passed today by Judge Md. Zakir Hossain at the Senior Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka.

The discovery was confirmed by Akhtarul Islam, the Public Relations Officer of the ACC, who stated that these assets were allegedly acquired by Tamal Monsur illegally. He emphasized that the seizure of these assets is necessary for the state’s interests, as failure to do so could lead to the sale, transfer, or relocation of the properties.

In addition to the discovery of the apartments, the ACC has found evidence of illegally acquired wealth worth 3.39 crore Bangladeshi Taka under Tamal Monsur’s name. The commission has also uncovered suspicious illegal transactions totaling 3.37 crore Taka in three of his bank accounts. As a result, the ACC has filed a case against Tamal Monsur for acquiring illegal wealth.

Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, Director General of the ACC, confirmed the case to the press, highlighting that the discovered properties include 12 apartments and 4 parking spaces in the Aftab Sky View Tower located on Jamaica Street in New York, with a total value of approximately 38 crore Taka (based on an exchange rate of 77 Taka per USD). The report also reveals that two multi-story buildings in Street Between and Queens Block are valued at 15 crore Taka and 10 crore Taka, respectively.

The investigation into Tamal Monsur began in September 2024, shortly after the fall of the Awami League government. The ACC had previously accused him of embezzling public funds by supplying substandard materials in a government project worth 175 crore Taka at Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur.

The case continues to develop as the ACC pursues further inquiries into Tamal Monsur’s alleged illicit financial activities.
