Tk134Cr Corruption: ACC files cases against ex-minister Nuruzzaman, his family

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed three separate corruption cases against former ousted Awami League Member of Parliament from Lalmonirhat-2 and social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, along with his wife and son.

According to the ACC, the cases pertain to allegations of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk8.5 crore and engaging in suspicious transactions totaling Tk134 crore. ACC Director General (Prevention) Md. Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development at the commission’s headquarters on Monday.

In the first case, former minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed is accused of amassing illegal assets worth Tk5.31 crore and conducting suspicious transactions amounting to Tk62.08 crore through 31 bank accounts in his name.

In the second case, his wife, Mosammat Hosne Ara Begum, faces charges of acquiring illicit assets worth Tk1.22 crore, in addition to allegedly conducting suspicious transactions of Tk50.43 crore through 25 bank accounts registered in her name.

The third case names his son, Rakibuzzaman Ahmed, alongside the former minister.

The commission’s report stated that Rakibuzzaman acquired wealth amounting to Tk2.06 crore beyond his known sources of income by allegedly misusing his father’s influence.

He is also accused of engaging in suspicious and irregular transactions totaling Tk22.43 crore through 10 bank accounts in his name.

The ACC’s action underscores its commitment to addressing corruption and enforcing stringent measures against those involved in illegal financial activities.
