ACC files against S Alam, Nabil Group owners

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sued 43 people, including S Alam Group Chairman Md Saiful Alam and Nabil Group owner and Managing Director Md Aminul Islam, in connection with the embezzlement of Tk363 crore from Islami Bank.

The case was filed on Tuesday at the ACC’s Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1. ACC Director General Md Akhter Hossain confirmed the development.

According to the case statement, the accused among them several former Islami Bank officials conspired to recommend and approve loan proposals for a non-existent company, Naba Agro Trade International, from the bank’s Gulshan branch.

The investigation alleges that the suspects abused their authority, falsified documents, and committed fraud to secure loan facilities worth Tk670 crore. Of that amount, Tk363 crore was officially disbursed but later misappropriated.

Others named in the case include:
Shahidul Alam, Director of Sonali Traders Md Ariful Islam Chowdhury, Managing Director of Century Flour Mills Md Hasanuzzaman, Director of Century Flour Mills Mamunur Rashid, Managing Director of Naba Agro Trade International Harunur Rashid, Chairman of Naba Agro Trade International.

The ACC has said the case is part of its ongoing drive against large-scale loan scams and financial irregularities in the country’s banking sector.
