Abu Sadeq is the Managing Director of SS Group, a prominent and diversified consortium of companies in Bangladesh. Beyond his corporate ventures, Sadeq is actively involved in various professional organisations. He serves as a member of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Standing Committee on Law and Order, Anti-Smuggling, Counterfeiting, and Adulteration.
In an exclusive interview with The New Nation, Abu Sadeq shared his insights on the business environment, his activities, and his optimism regarding Bangladesh’s prosperity in the New Year.
The business icon expressed confidence that Bangladesh is moving towards a new era of prosperity in 2025. He noted that the interim government’s introduction of various reform initiatives is expected to foster a more pro-business environment, enabling significant progress in the coming year.
Under the dynamic leadership of Md. Abu Sadeq, SS Group has played a pivotal role in nation-building through its involvement in various development projects, including construction, river excavation and protection, land development, import-export, trading, and electro-medical supply businesses. The group’s diverse contributions have significantly impacted Bangladesh’s economic landscape, showcasing a commitment to excellence and innovation across multiple industries.
Over the years, Abu Sadeq has received several prestigious awards. In 2017, he was honoured with the George Harrison Award. In 2018, he received the Kabi Nazrul Gold Medal, the Mother Teresa Gold Medal, and the International Mother Language Award. The following year, in 2019, he was awarded the Sher-e-Bangla Medal and the Amar Prakashani Honour. Most recently, in 2023, he was honoured with the South Asia Business Partnership Award.
Speaking on the importance of a conducive business environment, Sadeq said: “To create a business-friendly atmosphere, it is imperative to first establish a safe and people-friendly environment. He explained that he does not micromanage his employees but instead takes the time to personally train them when they make mistakes.
Sadeq stressed the importance of creating a stable political environment to support the country’s economic recovery process. He believes that the interim government’s efforts to restore business confidence and improve operations, both domestically and internationally, are vital.
He highlighted the importance of improving law and order, particularly in industrial zones, stating that revitalising economic activities is essential for the nation’s welfare. Prompt and adequate support for the private sector, the driving force of the economy, is critical to achieving this goal.
“If we genuinely want to embrace digitalisation, we must demonstrate to a global audience that our country is capable of producing high-quality products,” Sadeq remarked.
He acknowledged that success did not come overnight but was achieved through integrity and hard work. Over his 23 years in business, Sadeq has faced numerous challenges, including natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic, yet his commitment to integrity has been the cornerstone of his company’s resilience.
“We need to save our country. Supporting small businesses and their owners is crucial. Unfortunately, few people in our nation work towards improving the prospects for small businesses,” he said.
