Special Report :

One of the lead coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and a student of the Linguistics Department of Dhaka University has demanded the abolition of fascism within the judiciary on behalf of the student leaders.

In a statement sent to the media early Thursday morning (August 8), he made this demand.

Asif said, “We are observing with concern that fascist judges are still operating within the judiciary. We have heard that, just as before the coup, there were delays and obstructions under the guise of the court, similar efforts are now underway to hinder the government of students and people after the coup.”

He added, “We are soon demanding the removal of the chief justice, who is an active accomplice of the fascist system, and the justices of the appellate division. Immediately appoint patriotic and people’s judges to these vacant positions to quickly establish a government of students and people. I hope the justices will voluntarily resign by this morning. Otherwise, we will have to resort to strict measures.”

Furthermore, he called on the interim government to implement necessary policies for the judiciary to function independently and effectively, and urged all beneficiaries and collaborators of fascism at all levels to voluntarily resign.

Earlier, Asif emphasized that the interim government established by this uprising should prioritize the hopes and aspirations of students and citizens rather than the power ambitions of any specific party or group.

He stated, “This popular uprising by students and the public aims to restore the state of Bangladesh and eradicate the fascist system.”

He shared these comments in a post on his Facebook profile on Wednesday as pressure mounts from BNP vice chairperson Tareq Rahman to call for elections immediately without pursuing reforms.

Additional Attorney General S.M. Munir resigned on Thursday, submitting his resignation to the Attorney General’s office. This follows the resignations of Attorney General A.M. Amin Uddin and Additional Attorney General Sheikh Md. Morshed. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, many officials appointed during her tenure are either being removed or are voluntarily resigning.
