JnU Correspondent :
Police have filed a charge sheet recently naming Jagannath University (JnU) law student Raihan Siddiqui Amman as the prime accused in connection with the suicide of his classmate, Fairuz Sadaf Abantika. The university’s assistant proctor, Din Islam, who was initially accused, has been acquitted after investigators found no evidence linking him to the case.
On 15 March last year, Abantika posted a Facebook message stating that Amman would be responsible if she took her own life. The following day, her mother lodged a case against Amman and Din Islam, leading to their arrests. That evening, Abantika was found hanging at her home.
Forensic examination confirmed her death around 9:00pm, but investigators noted that the Facebook post appeared approximately 55 minutes after her death. Her phone was recovered from her room, where only her mother and brother were present at the time, and police have not determined who made the post.
Investigators reviewed testimonies from 23 witnesses and message exchanges between Abantika and Amman, which supported the allegations against him. No evidence was found of any contact between Abantika and Din Islam.
