Abahani champs in DPL Cricket

Dhaka Abahani Limited became champions in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket defeating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited by four wickets in their Super League match at the BKSP Ground-4 in Savar on Tuesday.

After yesterday’s outcome, Dhaka Abahani Limited gained 28 points from 14 matches, while Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited collected 18 points from 14 matches.

Chasing Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited’s fighting total of 267 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 50 overs, Dhaka Abahani Limited sailed home making 273 for the loss of six wickets when they had just one ball to spare.

Abahani had a sorrow start as opener Sabbir Hosan (6) was caught by Shafiqul Islam off Shakib Al Hasan when Abahani’s score was just 10.

After Sabbir’s dismissal, opener Naim Sheikh Anamul Haque Bijoy repaired the damage contributing together 50 runs in the second wicket stand before Naim Sheikh (21) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off Shafiqul Islam when Abahani’s total was 60 for the loss of two wickets.

After Naim’s departure, Anamul Haque Bijoy and Afif Hossain built a worthy partnership scoring together 103 runs in the third wicket stand before Anamul Haque was trapped leg before wicket by Saif Hassan when Abahani’s score was 163 for the loss of three wickets.

Bijoy notched up a superb 67. His 80-ball innings was studded with four fours and two sixes.

After Bijoy’s departure, Afif Hossain and Mosaddek Hossain put on together 50 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Afif Hossain was dismissed by Taibur Rahman when Abahani’s total was 213 for the loss of four wickets.

Afif hit a sparkle 83. His 88-ball knock was laced with eight fours and two sixes.

Mosaddek Hossain remained unbeaten with 53. He hit four sixes in his 54-ball knock.

After Afif’s dismissal, Mosaddek Hossain and Nahidul Islam put on 35 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Nahidul Islam (24) was bowled out by Shafiqul Islam when Abahani’s score was 248 for the loss of five wickets.

Number-7 batter Tanzim Hasan (5) was bowled out by Ripon Mondol when Abahani’s total was 255 for the loss of six wickets.

Mosaddek Hossain and Rakbul Hasan guided their team to anchor the victory target.

Shafiqul Islam was his team’s most successful bowler with two wickets for 60 runs.

Earlier, Ziaur Rahman, Shakib Al Hasan, Shykat Ali and Nurul Hasan scored a notable score making 85, 49, 41 and 41 runs respectively.

Rakibul Hasan and Tanzim Hasan captured three wickets each instead of 29 and 62 runs respectively, while Nahidul Islam bagged two wickets for 31 runs.
