At least six different kinds of shops were gutted in a rife at city’s Pashchim Madarbari area on early Friday.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from electric short circuit in one of the shops around 3.30 am today and it quickly engulfed the surrounding shops that included a bakery, a hotel, an electronic items shop and a pharmacy.
On information, two units of fire fighters from Agrabad and Nandankanon Fire Stations rushed to the spot and brought the flame under control around 6 am.
Valuables worth about Taka five lakh were gutted in the fire service sources said adding that none was, however, injured in the fire.
