Int’l Day against Drug Abuse observed

International Day against Drug Abuse-2015 was observed here yesterday with a call to build social movement and create much awareness among the people to have a drug free society.
This year’s theme of the day was “Let’s Develop Our Lives, Our Communities, Our Identities, without Drug”.
In the celebration of the day district administration and department of narcotics control (DNC) chalked out the elaborate programmes.
In the morning, a big colorful rally led by deputy commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad was brought out from Independence Square and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads of the town.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of the district shilpakala academy of the town here at 10 am with additional deputy commissioner (Revenue) Aleya Khatun in the chair.
DC M. Abdus Samad addressed the function as the chief guest and superintendent of police Ashraful Islam was present as the special guest.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by medical officer of civil surgeon office Nafiza Yasmin, inspector of DNC Tarun Kumar Roy and journalist KM Rezaul Haque.
The speakers said it is quite impossible to build a drug free society for the law enforcers alone until the movement is created from the family and the society against drugs.
They also urged all to form anti drug committee in all the mahallas, paras and the villages to establish drug free beautiful and healthy society through protecting the youth community from addiction.
DC M. Abdus Samad in his speech sought whole hearted cooperation of all to make the district drug free through active participation of the people from all walks of life to ensure peace and tranquility in the family and the society.
Later, the DC distributed prizes to the winners who participated in the essay writing competition conducted by the department on drug abuse marking the day.
A large number of students, teachers, social workers and the staff of DNC including the journalists took part in the programmes.
BSS from Faridpur adds: The ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’, a part of the global Programme, was observed here yesterday in a befitting manner.
In this connection local Narcotics Control Department in collaboration with district administration chalked out an elaborate programme that included painting and essay competitions projecting the adverse impact of drug abuse and its harmful effect on our juveniles and youths.
To mark the day a rally was brought out in the town participated by school and college students to create awareness among the people against drug abuse.
A discussion meeting was held at local Kabi Jasimuddin Hall in this connection with ADC (Education & ICT) as the chief guest while ADM Md. Eradul Haque in the chair.
Speakers at the discussion stressed the need for tougher laws to curb the drug menace from our society. Speakers also urged both guardians and teachers to take care of their wards regarding their life style to stop them from being misled.
