Trader fined for stockpiling fuel oil in Ishwardi
A mobile court has fined a trader Tk 20,000 in Ishwardi for illegally stockpiling 6,000 litres of fuel oil and selling it with a shortage of about 200 millilitres per litre.
The drive was conducted on Sunday (March 15) afternoon at Messrs Karim Petroleum Agency in the municipal town. The fine was imposed by the Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Ishwardi and the Executive Magistrate Md. Asaduzzaman Sarkar.
The fined trader, Md. Abdul Karim is the proprietor of Messrs Karim Petroleum Agency.
According to sources from the mobile court, the operation was carried out based on information provided by the National Security Intelligence.
During the drive, the court found 6,000 litres of fuel oil stored at the agency without proper authorisation. It was also found that the agency had been selling fuel with a shortage of about 200 millilitres per litre.
For violating licence conditions by stockpiling fuel in a risky manner, attempting to make excessive profit, and cheating customers by selling less than the standard quantity, trader Abdul Karim was fined Tk 20,000.
Acting Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate, Md. Asaduzzaman Sarkar said the trader was fined as a warning for illegally stockpiling fuel.
He also directed that the seized fuel be immediately sold to general consumers at the government-fixed price.
