Man killed in clash over cutting soil in Feni
A man was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers over soil cutting in Chhagalnaiya Upazila of Feni District early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Abu Ahmed alias Hona Mia, 37, son of Abul Kashem of Pathannagar village in the upazila. He used to work as a token agent for vehicles in the area.
Local people said some influential people including one Nur Ahmed Mia was involved in cutting soil from a field and transporting it by pickup vans to sell elsewhere in Kontraktor Mosque area under Pathannagar union of the upazila.
At one stage, Kamrul Hasan Zahid and his associates entered the area and obstructed the workers around 2 am.
Kamrul and Abu Ahmed, cousin of Nur Ahmed Mia, locked into an altercation over going on Facebook Live over the matter, triggering a clash.
Some 10 to 12 people attacked Abu Ahmed during the clash, leaving him critically injured.
Later, he was taken to Sadar Hospital morgue where the doctors declared him dead.
Two people were injured when they tried to save Abu Ahmed during the attack.
Shaheen Mia, officer-in-charge of Chhagalnaiya Police Station, said police arrested seven people with the help of local people.
