Maldives Gas Explosion: 5 BD nationals dead

Five Bangladeshi nationals were killed and two others injured in a gas cylinder explosion at workers’ quarters of an under-construction building on Dhigurah Island in the Maldives.

The victims have been identified as Taj Uddin Islam, Md Sadar Ali, Md Robin Molla, Shafiqul Islam and Md Nurnabi Sarker.

The Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives confirmed the incident on Friday.

Two other Bangladeshi workers, Jamal Uddin and Saddam Hossain, sustained critical injuries in the blast and are undergoing treatment at IGM Hospital in Male.

Officials from the High Commission said they have contacted the injured workers and are closely monitoring their condition.

The mission is also coordinating with local authorities to ensure the swift repatriation of the deceased to Bangladesh.
