2 truck drivers die in head-on collision in Rangpur

A truck driver and a helper were killed in a head-on collision between two trucks in Taraganj, Rangpur. The accident occurred at around 8:00 am on Friday (March 13) in the Kharubhaj Bridge area of Taraganj Upazila on the Rangpur-Dinajpur highway.

According to police and eyewitnesses, a truck loaded with stones from Syedpur was heading towards Rangpur. Meanwhile, another truck loaded with fertilizer was traveling from Rangpur to Syedpur in Nilphamari. The two trucks collided head-on at around 8:00 am on Friday in the Kharubhaj Bridge area of Taraganj Upazila. The front parts of both trucks were badly twisted.

At that time, the driver of the stone-laden truck, Idris Ali (35), and the driver of the fertilizer-laden truck died on the spot. Upon receiving the information, personnel from the Taraganj Upazila Fire Service and Civil Defence rescued the dead and injured.

The deceased truck driver, Idris Ali (35), was the son of Rahidul Islam from Jaluli village in Moheshpur Upazila of Jhenaidah district. The injured helper of the same truck, Ariful Islam, is the son of Nur Islam from the same area.

He has been sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Police said the identity of the other deceased truck driver has not yet been confirmed.

Rangpur Highway Police Superintendent Abu Tobar Md. Shamsul Rahman said that the bodies of the two truck drivers have been recovered.

The two trucks involved in the accident have been seized from the scene and taken into police custody. Preparations for filing a case are underway.
