State Minister inaugurates tree plantation in Gouripur

A tree plantation programme was launched at ShaheedHarun Park in GouripurUpazila of Mymensingh district on Sunday, marking International Women’s Day.

The programme was jointly organised by ACECC NariKallyanSangstha, Creative NariKallyanSangstha and ACECC Youth Association with the theme, “Air of the country and soil of the country, let’s make it pure by planting trees.”

Engineer M Iqbal Hossain, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief and Member of Parliament for Mymensingh-3 constituency, inaugurated the Tree Plantation Programme 2026 by planting a sapling at the park premises, located on the Bazar West Line side of GouripurPourashava, at around 2 pm.

Under the initiative, organisers plan to plant various fruit, forest and medicinal trees in the park to create a greener and cooler environment. The plantation activities will continue until the next rainy season.

Among others present at the programme were UpazilaNirbahi Officer Afia Amin Pappa, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sunanda Sarkar Proma, Officer-in-Charge of Gouripur Police Station MdKamrulHasan, founder of the women’s wing and President of Gouripur Reporters Club Mohammad Raihan Uddin Sarkar, along with local political leaders, BNP leaders of the upazila and municipality, women leaders of the organisations, social workers, freedom fighters, journalists and other officials.

Organisers said the initiative aims to help create a clean, green and environmentally friendly environment at ShaheedHarun Park for the local community. They added that trees are planted in the park every year on the occasion of International Women’s Day as part of their commitment to environmental protection.
